More about Pomona Dragstrip - Winternationals
The In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip is one of the most historic venues in drag racing and has served as a cornerstone of the National Hot Rod Association schedule since the sport’s early years. Located within the Fairplex in Pomona, California, the facility opened in 1953 and has hosted the season-opening Winternationals and the season-ending Finals for decades, giving it a unique role in both launching and deciding championships.
The track itself is a traditional 1,000-foot professional drag strip (shortened from the original quarter-mile configuration for safety), consisting of two parallel lanes designed for straight-line acceleration and head-to-head competition. Races are decided in just a few seconds, with Top Fuel dragsters exceeding 330 mph, placing extreme emphasis on reaction time, traction, and mechanical precision. The surface is meticulously prepared with traction compounds and constant maintenance throughout race weekends.
Pomona’s significance extends beyond its layout—its long history, consistent conditions, and role in critical points of the NHRA calendar make it one of the most respected and strategically important tracks in the sport.
