July 15 update

For tonight’s All-Star Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, unfortunately, I need to add a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late afternoon and into early evening hours. At 12:30 PM LT, isolated showers were developing across the region, though the nearest lightning was about 60 miles away.

I think the storms will primarily be east of the track – onshore winds from the ridge, which would yield upslope rains. There is also a weak surface trough and favorable conditions aloft. These two factors are working together to bring the chance of showers.

So, the All-Star forecast is…

Wed 7/15: Variably cloudy, isolated showers & t-storms, Hi: 91 (86˚F at race time)
