and introducing … Kallie!
Halloween – For the first time in a long time, Alex didn’t wear a Jeff Gordon costume. He was Anakin Skywalker and we had a lot of fun both trick-or-treating and at the community festival. Jennie dressed as a cat and Aaron was a Green Lantern. Kallie was just annoyed with the whole evening.
Houston Texans beat the Detroit Lions, 28-21. It wasn’t really as close as the score was. It was a fun game but after the festival the day before, it made for a tiring weekend.
Fall Festival at Willow Creek Elementary – It was a great afternoon for their festival. Jennie drove the trackless train and we took turns with Alex on the Dixie Swing. We even took turns in David Ragan’s Nationwide car.
Trip to Las Vegas – After speaking at a conference for 30 minutes, I ended up staying out for another 3 days. Jennie flew out Thursday and we met other friends out there. I had forgotten how much fun Vegas was…now we’re planning on going a lot more often.
It’s been more than a week since Hurricane Ike made landfall. While we did sustain some damage and lost power for about 5 days, there were many more who are lost much more than we did. They are in our thoughts as the upper Texas coast rebuilds from Ike.
Before – These were pictures that Jennie took at sunset as Ike was approaching the Texas coast
After – After most of Ike moved through, we wandered out and took pictures.
Kallie comes home – After a very long Saturday of looking for the right dog, we found her at the Houston BARC, i.e., the city pound. It took her a while to warm up to us but we finally got her attention. We think she’s about 10-11 mos. old and she’s a Shepherd mix. She’s still a puppy and I have the bruises to prove it. But we’re working on the crate training and she is housebroken. We’re very happy and we think by the smile on her face, she’s happy here too.

Bluebonnets and wild flowers – a spring tradition in Texas.
Memorable pictures
CNBC debut (8/27/08) – Through my “new” job (been there almost a year), I have had the good fortune to get more media exposure. I made my CNBC debut as a weather analyst. However…the NBC meteorologist covered everything I was going to say, so I got stuck with a question about Hurricane Gustav’s potential impact on New Orleans.
First Communion – After almost a year of classes, Alex was able to take his First Communion on May 3, 2008. While he was one of about a hundred, he was only a seat away from his best friend, Braxton. Thanks again to Braxton’s parents, Jimm and Celeste to hosting the festivities afterwards.
Our Summer Trip to Florida – 2007 – This was the first time for both Alex and Aaron to go to Disneyworld. Jen was a pro who did all the research, so we let her lead. We hit so many different places and some more than once and had a great time. We’ll go back…we’re just not sure when.
- Character pictures – What’s a trip to Disney without character pictures?
- Epcot
- Busch race – It rained…and it rained…and it…well, you get the idea. We never did see that race. It was postponed until the next morning. We didn’t get back to the hotel until after midnight, so there was no way we were going back to Daytona for a full day with the Cup race that night.
