At 11 AM EDT, Florence was located 20 miles SW of Wilmington, NC and was moving WSW at 3 mph. Max sustained winds are 80 mph and about 6-12” rain has already fallen across the area closest to the landfall point. An additional 24-30” rain is possible across area, while a swath of 4-8” rain is possible across portions of NC. Note that this forecast model image shows all new rain since 8 AM EDT Friday and goes through Sunday night, 8 PM.
Flooding from both storm surge in coastal areas and from “fresh water flooding”, from the rain, are occurring and not to be trifled with. Storm surge of up to 10 feet have already been reported along the coast.
