MOUNT POCONO, PA WEATHER

RaceWeather Forecast Discussion
Pocono Raceway

A significant early-season heat wave will dominate the weather pattern at Pocono Raceway heading into the weekend as a strong upper-level ridge remains anchored across the Northeast. Temperatures are expected to peak Friday, with conditions running well above normal across eastern Pennsylvania. By Saturday and Sunday, the heat should gradually ease as a cold front approaches from the Great Lakes and southern Canada.

While the overall weekend appears favorable for on-track activities, the approaching front may increase the potential for scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly on Friday and Sunday. Forecast guidance indicates the front will slow as it moves eastward, creating some uncertainty regarding the timing and coverage of any precipitation. At this time, prolonged washout conditions are not anticipated, but race teams, fans, and officials should continue monitoring forecasts for possible thunderstorm development as the weekend progresses.

More about Pocono Raceway

Front stretch of Pocono Raceway - NASCAR track

Pocono Raceway, often referred to as “The Tricky Triangle,” is a unique and historic motorsports venue located in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Opened in 1971, the track is known for its distinctive triangular layout, featuring three turns—each modeled after a corner from other famous tracks: Turn 1 (14° banking) resembles Trenton Speedway, Turn 2 (8°) mimics Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Turn 3 (6°) is similar to The Milwaukee Mile. This design creates distinct challenges for drivers and engineers, making it a favorite among racing enthusiasts for its strategic complexity.

The Raceway measures 2.5 miles (4 km) per lap and is family-owned by the Mattioli family, setting it apart from many other major U.S. racing venues owned by corporate groups. Pocono has long been a staple of American motorsports, hosting races for NASCAR’s Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Craftsman Truck Series. It has also seen IndyCar and endurance racing over the years.

Beyond racing, Pocono Raceway is also recognized for its environmental initiatives, being one of the first major sports venues in the U.S. to operate using 100% renewable energy. Its large infield area allows for camping and other fan activities, making race weekends a full experience for attendees.
